Support and Resistance Explained
Support and resistance are areas where past trading showed repeated buying or selling interest. They describe behavior in historical data; they do not force future price action.
Think in zones, not exact numbers
Crypto markets trade across venues and can move quickly. A zone built from multiple reactions is usually more realistic than a single line. Note the timeframe because a level visible on a five-minute chart may be irrelevant to a weekly decision.
Look for independent confirmation
Volume, market structure, volatility and closing prices can add context. A brief move through a level is not automatically a confirmed breakout. Define what evidence would confirm or reject the idea before acting.
Risk control comes first
Position size and a predefined invalidation point matter more than drawing a perfect level. Gaps, liquidation cascades and news can move price beyond expected zones before an order executes.
Avoid hindsight drawing
A useful method should be documented before the outcome. Repeatedly adjusting lines to fit every move creates an explanation that cannot be tested. Keep the chart, date, timeframe and reasoning together.
Frequently asked questions
Does support mean price cannot fall further?
No. Support is a historical observation, not a guarantee. It can fail abruptly, especially in a leveraged or thin market.
