Crypto Bridge Risk Explained
A bridge coordinates value or messages between networks. The destination asset often depends on locked collateral, validators, proofs or contracts outside the destination chain itself.
Map what happens to the original asset
Some bridges lock an asset and issue a representation elsewhere. Others rely on liquidity pools or burn-and-mint authority. Identify the issuer, redemption path and the system that prevents unbacked creation.
Security models are not interchangeable
A bridge may depend on a multisignature group, an external validator set, optimistic challenges or cryptographic proofs. Each model has different assumptions and response options during an incident.
Wrapped assets inherit bridge risk
A destination token can trade normally even though its backing depends on the bridge. If redemption stops or collateral is lost, the representation can diverge from the original asset.
Use the smallest necessary exposure
Verify the official route, supported networks, contract address, fees and minimums. Test a small transfer and avoid leaving funds in a bridge contract longer than needed. A successful prior transfer is not a future guarantee.

Is a bridged token identical to the original asset?
It may track the original asset, but its backing and redemption depend on the bridge design. That creates additional technical and counterparty assumptions.
